We celebrate our number 30 with a double pack, featuring one of the creators of techno in Spain: Groof.
Roberto Gemelin, from Madrid, is Groof. He's Robert Calvin too. No matter which of his alias you know him by, he's one of the most active producers in the Madrid arena.
Aka Robert Calvin, he released materials with Turbo (Tiga's label) in 2004, having previously collaborated with Star Whores in a joint release with Alek Stark (2002).
Also important are the remixes he did for Disko B or for Sindicato Records and MSX, paying tribute to Megabeat with his recreation of the great classic Strange.
His background as Groof is even more extensive, as his early steps go back to the times of Minifunk (the cheeky and shameless label from Barcelona that was then managed by Omar and Dj Loe). With them he recorded Mambo! (1999) and I want you (2000). He has also recorded with WarmUp, Fieber, Rainwaves or Shareware Records.
At the end of the ninetees Groof shared Quite Unusual with Oscar Mulero: the start of a deep friendship that nowadays brings us WU30 mini-album.
'Angel exterminador' is on the A side; modern and dark techno, based on cemented beats and deep synth work. A track that is constantly growing and evolving; quality and punch in one track.
'Diagrama esporadico' goes next: relaxed BPM, 909 beats, spacey arpeggios, and analogue synth percussions for a mental feeling.
'Gummy' starts with weird flanged noises, fed with distorted drums and drones that create an elastic feeling, hence the gummy name. Scientific techno.
'Amb' goes back to darkness, subtle ambiences and drones, fixed sequences and a clever arrangement.
'Vac 04' continues on the same mood: obscure synths, classic drum machines, sharp hats and white noise.
Closing the release, 'Islands' is a liquid track based on lush keyboards, and a dubby feeling with those endless delays. A classy number.
A nice mini-album which is diverse, complex, classic and futuristic at the same time.

State of Mind are no strangers to drum and bass, and fresh off the heels of their last album 'Nil By Ear' and their free live album, we would undoubtedly consider them official rockstars. Always busy in the studio, managing their own imprint: 'SOM Music' (State Of Mind Music), and actually finding time to tour, they are relinquishing some serious output. This double A-side record proves how versatile these gents are! The A side is a pure slice of raver euphoria with one of 2012's biggest anthems 'Mass Media,' while the flip displays a more techy-rolleresque side of the duo featuring Budapest, Hungary's finest export, Jade (whom needs no introduction) It is interesting to note, however, that all of our glorious vinyl artwork comes from the one like Gabor Simon aka Jade. A1 No Cure / Black Sun Empire Remix

As one of the figures that helped define the neurofunk sound, Jade needs no introduction. Drawing from a wide range of influences including Konflict, The Prodigy and The Crystal Method, the Hungarian producer has been producing hit after hit for the last eleven years, with his very first release being snapped up by none other than Black Sun Empire.
A veteran in his field, Jade has become an integral part of the neurofunk scene, and has been remixed by heavyweights such as Phace, Audio, and Icicle. With huge collaborations with Black Sun Empire, an infamous bootleg of Dick Dale - 'Misirlou' (aka 'The Pulp Fiction theme') as well as his own highly acclaimed album on Citrus Recordings behind him, Jade has now focused his talents to his own label - Eatbrain.
Originally set up as an outlet for his own work as well as that of his close friends, Eatbrain is now set to become one of neurofunk's most daring labels. With its first release featuring Jade & State of Mind's 'Here We Go' and 'Audio Hypnosis' from Jade himself on the flip, this budding label has forced people to take notice from the very beginning.
The Venom Remix EP follows things up in a big way and can be seen as a statement of intent, with four tracks from Jade's very own Venom LP getting high profile remixes from some of the neurofunk scene's most prestigious names. With a back catalogue already boasting Jade, Black Sun Empire, Fourward and Mindscape among others by only its third release, Eatbrain
is a label with big plans - and big sounds to match.
'No Cure (Black Sun Empire Remix)'
One of the names synonymous with the darker side of Drum and Bass, this remix comes from the legendary Black Sun Empire. Beginning with a dark ominous atmosphere, this reworking of the Jade classic takes an even darker tone. Featuring a fat bassline, unsettling glitches and choice samples, this track rumbles into life and never lets up. Combining the precise, shadowy sounds of Black Sun Empire with the already dark, gritty nature of the original, 'No Cure' is one of the sickest tracks around.
'Moblaw (Fourward Remix)'
Offering no let up, the EP ends with a huge collaboration with Matt-U brought up to speed by the mighty Fourward. Since forming in 2007, Fourward have had releases on Virus, Nasca and Citrus as well as Blokhe4d's Bad Taste Recordings imprint. Already a dancefloor favorite in its original guise, this slick remix takes things up a gear, with the Austrian four-piece tinkering with the memorable Reese bassline and adding an extra sense of drive, urgency and depth to an already certified banger.

close
After releasing his widely acclaimed 'Sexy Success' ep on Amazing Records, Brazilian hot new producer JPhilipps is back on MiniCoolBoyz' label with a brand new four tracker, showing once more his unique talent in creating tribalistic groove-infused dancefloor hits. Title track 'Samba Do Futuro's big tough bass and rootsy feel go hand in hand with its powerful array of jungle sounds and carioca football game whistles. A quirky vibraphone riff spices up the whole 7 minutes and 54, while rollicking percussions add a colourful twist to the boisterous break. 'I Like' more straightforward techno approach and distorted vocals lead the way to fat synth stabs and in-your-face rim-shot sounds. 'Baile', as the title suggests, is pure tech-house designed to get the crowd going crazy during peak time disco hours, with high-pitched toms, delayed claps and an addictive upbeat South-American mood. 'Star Criminal (feat. Ilka Oliver)' is built around a funky bass line, dark vocal snippets and piano chords, and is without any doubt the most eccentric and off-the-wall of the package. With this ep, the Rio De Janeiro native delivers a fine example of electronic music mixed with the warm sounds of his own cultural heritage; an ep which is set to ignite the summer clubs all over the world and get the party-goers shake their bodies following the rhythm.

After years of absence on the music scene, international techno superstar CJ Bolland returns with a big track that takes him back to his nineties origins, reminiscent of the 'Camargue' glorydays. Now ready to storm the dance music world once again, this is a taste of what's to come from the heart & soul of the techno mastermind. 'Chicago' obviously refers to the city of house, back when house was house, with funky organs, a variety of beats and the most beautiful strings. On the remix we get a deep workout from Voltron, a melancholic future garage stepper from Title, and a nasty dubstep delivery from Syndaesia.

M_Rec Ltd is proud to welcome on board Cassegarin, Greek-British producer Tsiridis and Berlin/Vienna based composer and producer Evirgen. Both interested in exploring the territories where dark, raw techno meets UK-influenced sounds, they already left a mark on the international techno scene with releases on Prologue and Mickrowave.
On this new vinyl for M_Rec LTD, they bring two original tracks and a remix by Ed Davenport.
The A side opens with A Painter Of Modern Life, a track laying the perfectly disturbed rhythm of modern life. A sequence of hypnotic techno where the rhythms are never heavy, the sounds antiseptics. Around this base, a brilliant and affective melody emerges. A touch of class that only few can sustain. Completing the A side there's a remix by an artist who has brought a lot of quality to the techno scene: Ed Davenport (Figure SPC, Liebe Detail, NRK Music, etc.). He throws the original track into a vortex of syncopated rhythms and deep atmospheres: the groove that comes out is amazing.
On the B side Cassegrain showcase one track. Palette is true techno, with its rhythm straight and direct. There is no stopping, even with soft sounds rising slowly from deep below. Everything transforms into a pleasant trip, exciting and alive. At just the right pace.

A1 The Long Tomorrow

B2 The Holographic Talbot
close
The first reference of Subsequent Records LTD on vinyl format, by the owner Luis Ruiz, promoter of the Old School Techno sound of the new millennium.
The EP contains 4 tracks strictly analog, based on TR-909, thought on the dance-floor. The Techno in all the forms, through euphoric style, dark and melodic structures of Detroit Techno.
"The Long Tomorrow" reflects a hypnotic power, a perfect composition designed to express raw feelings, creating a lethal weapon club.
"Merrick" the living expression of analog synthesis, with a great Sterak style, highlighting patterns of drums of TR-808 and 909 respectively, giving a taste of classic Detroit Techno .
"Fires of Molech" is the living flame of the true sound of Berlin in the 90's. Influence clearly based on Tresor artists of those years. Groove mixed directly with fluctuating environments and alien atmospheres.
"The Holographic Talbot" is a confusing combination of adrenaline and melancholy episodes, where the melodies are a perfect musical holographic projection, beyond the material world, and emotions are part of a spiritual journey.
A masterpiece on vinyl, grooves give the record alive the Techno culture of the past, and current techno scene in full swing. The return of an extinct species, reborn ... The Techno is still alive!

Hailing from Perth, Australia, this talented and prolific producer is no stranger to the music scene. Following his first taste of an Akai sampler to drop film samples on the intros of songs in his metal band, The Dirty Whittler, Rregula eventually found himself drawn into the world of drum and bass and formed one half of Bad Robot in 2003, a monster collaboration with future Technique and Viper superstar, Phetsta.
With a number of releases on Subsonik Sound, Black Sun Empire, and Drumsound & Bassline Smith's popular Technique Recordings as Bad Robot, followed by solo projects on Vampire Records, DSCI4, Citrus Recordings, Icarus Audio, Climate Recordings, and too many others to name, Rregula has been scaling new heights with his output in the past year. Having just released an album project in 2011 on Trust In Music entitled 'Echoes From The Future' with Dementia and collaborations from the likes of Smooth, Trei and Optiv, one might think of calling it a year.. Rregula is not one of those people.
Now set to unleash his highly anticipated debut LP on Climate Recordings, Rregula presents: 'The Barramundi Experiment'. An album extraordinaire, with over 30 tunes of deep and dirty rolling drum and bass, halftime and drumstep.

NickBee, or Nikolai Bogomolov to his friends, has been the staple diet of discerning drum & bass fans the world over for some time now. Having already released a steady stream of deep, dark and disturbingly good tracks, this Ukrainian producer is ready to show just why the likes of Ed Rush & Optical, The Upbeats and Invisible label owners Noisia have been jumping on his sound.
His EP for Invisible offers a range of moods and flavours. The opening expanses of 'Discovery', the first of two tracks produced with fellow-Ukrainian Sunchase, lead you in gently offering muted bass sounds and juddering sound FX. 'Mangup' also features Sunchase, and here the pair take you deep into an epic off-world experience. Chanting vocals are offset with sharp breakbeats and digital crunches of bass that create an inevitable and irresistible tension.
Sides C and D see Nickbee team up with Malk. Firstly the duo deliver the sci-fi horror of 'Alien', a track that's deserving to share the title of Ridley Scott's intensely chilling film of the same name, followed by the hauntingly beautiful 'Cosmos', another perfectly put together piece of drum & bass that sticks two futuristic fingers up at the usual dance floor fodder.
