Freddy K is an icon of the historic Italian techno scene. In 90's his productions were on the historic ACV Records label. His experience led him to be behind many current projects, he moved to Berlin. The Freaksandfollowers album is by Anticlub, a notorious collective from Eindhoven, the Southern capital of Holland, who was inspired to push itself into a new direction. The inspiration came from a painting by an old lady that drew the attention and gave the impulse to create the album 'Freaks and Followers'. As the title suggests there are two kinds of people, people who take risks and people who do not. As Anticlub used to be a risk-taker but slowly settled in an unwanted comfort zone, this created dissatisfaction and led to a creative standstill. Seeing the painting everything became clear again. One should not stand still but keep moving and evolve oneself into new areas that one has not yet explored creatively. We wanted to call it the 'Tryhard EP', cause all the tracks were so full on. Then Nik & Karol (khomatech.com) started on the artwork, and couldn't really come up with anything cool with that name, so we decided 'Imperial' was a better name. The artwork took about a week to make. We are very proud of this EP. IMPERIAL Phace came out to Groningen again, as he tends to do, to do music. We started this one without working on the main groove first, Florian had brought this awesome chord progression. We made the intro and progression from it, which is quite different musically from our normal stuff. Then we went a bit theatrical with the music, i guess we kind of suprised ourselves with the intensity of the drop. But it was refreshing to do. And it's been going down rather well in our sets.. TRYHARD This is an older track that has had quite a few incarnations. It used to be called 'lomp', which translates to crude, or blunt. We had it lying around unfinished for a long time, and a certain youtube set rip was getting a lot of love, so we figured we'd finish it. Changed the mix, added a rollout section, etc. One of the inspriations for this track is Bad Company - 'Dogfight'.. such a sick tune. DUSTUP Our friends The Upbeats came down to Groningen amidst one of their Europe tours and we hung out, got in the studio, found an old unused bass riff, used it in the buildup, recorded all of us going 'HA' and 'ZU', worked on drum fills for a long time, temporarly called the tune 'Pumpers', jumped around in the studio and voila! 'Dust Up' was born. CONTAINMENT This track has had many faces also. It started as a bit of a Kemal tribute and and an attempt to do as many things with synths as possible, like the main drums for example (FM8). With the name of 'The Source' you can guess the primary artist wishes, cause the original source and first influences that comes from every artist are usually a curious point of interest. In this case, the result is translated into 10 tracks that in some way reflect part of the first B. Divider's influences, and trying to place a special tribute to them. Essential names such as John Carpenter, Brad Fiedel, Vangelis, or Tangerine Dream are a good example of inspiration and a fundamental legacy for the music and the science fiction movies, so you can imagine how this means for an electronic artist born in the 70s. Apart of the retro flavour and the electronic ambient of the 70s and in the other hand the electro and synth pop of the 80s, part of this work was focused in the use of vintage electronic gear as a point in common with the past. Some of the devices for this production have been more than 20 years working and they specially have been running their role for this album. The album tracklist was planned like a non-stop story from the beginning to the end and the songs are balanced and complementing one to each others, excepting a couple or three of the tracks from this album the rest of them were designed thinking about for the hearing pleasure than the dancefloor. Also in the artist words '...an album is the perfect situation to reflect more than only dancefloor electronic music'. If you find out tracks were written and produced between years 2006 to 2011 then the way to collect the stuff for this album reminds to us the artist took all the time he needed to put the pieces in the right path. In the other hand, you can see the production has a special design and format, and this issue was an important part of the process. For this reason, this 2x12inch vinyl edition comes in a gatefold format including a special inner illustration.
