'A Sensible Alternative to Emotion' is the second full length album by the Spanish techno duo Exium. More than ten years in the business confirm them as one the fundamental combos of European techno. We have the pleasure of presenting a new step in sound design: ten tracks that show a new twist in their style, relaxing the frequencies and the tempos and departing from linear concepts. These offer a well balanced tracklist with ambient or near IDM experiments, dreamy or even melodic techno and their traditional obscure feeling.
'Dronid' is the starting point; dubby chords with endless delays, a slow BPM rate, clean analogue bleeps and subtle kicks make this track the perfect intro.
'Massless particle' follows again with a low rate speed, plucked FM sequences, delicate atmospheres, high frequency drones and tension till the full rhythm shows up in the middle of the arrangement.
'Parallel computing' is the perfect follower. Opaque filtered grooves, bright hats, subtle drones and dreamy synth melodies make this number a deep one.
'Absolute Magnitude' brings us the Exium trademark sound: obsessive, cyclical and industrial-like sequences and grooves that grow and mutate as the minutes go by.
'Biosh' keeps on beating. Sub bass workout, sweeps and digital textures: tension is the word for defining the feeling. Complex sci-fi techno.
'Dagma' acts like an interlude with its floating sub drones, digital clicks, heavy stereo pannings and synth toms that make the drums short and gothic.
'Cimmerial trail' is complex electronic music. A shuffled beat, mutated ambiences; strings and melodies fight a battle for the conquest of light and shadows. An emotional one.
'Novakron' investigates broken rhythms, call it post-dubstep, with a clever drum programming. Abstract filtered sounds and high pitched cosmic pads.
'Nucleoid' brings dance back with a return to concrete drums, multiple percussion layers, sweeps and ambiences laid over a non-stopping beat.
Finally, 'The 12th Planet' is an arpeggiated sci-fi track, with an old school flavour that reminds us of the most mental Detroit producers, such as Mills or Hood.
Ten tracks that bear witness to this duo's maturity. This is a handmade album that pays very much attention to details. With personal sound design and synthesis work.
On good old plastic circles and downloadable data formats.

Two releases, two Juno number ones- you could say that proceedings for MIL have surpassed all expectation. But then again, looking at their output so far it's hardly surprising. The impact of the label has been unanimously received as an imprint dedicated to curating fresh and original house true to the genre from some of the most hotly regarded up-and-coming producers in the electronic music scene.
The forthcoming 3rd release maintains the expectation still and comes from Manchester-based Tom Maxwell, another highly anticipated producer on the UK scene who makes his first foray into the EP world. His first track featured on Jamie Trench's excellent debut EP and his most recent second release came on the equally successful MIL Lovebox VA, two finely pieced productions that served to showcase Maxwells unique take on the deeper side of house.
The coolly considered Spun EP underpins Maxwells musical perspective further and resonates with early UK and US garage with heavy 90s house influences. First track Feel Yourself delves straight into deeper territorium, a solid opening introduction of melodic intent that steadily builds with swirling synths and wood-block drumming underneath crisp hi-hats, a groove-heavy bassline and reverberant, deep chords. The utilisation of classic 90s piano rhythms grow in presence over a gospel-like vocal, handclaps and quick, shuffling rim shots at the breakdown kicking powerfully back into a head-nodding groove that rally takes the track to greater depths.
Talk About's snare groove and infectious rolling bassline form the forefront of the second track. The execution of teasing Aliyah vocal flourishes are used perfectly as a glue for the beat with the RnB melodies sparsely bouncing around each other in effortlessly cool fashion. The combination of spacey-synths patterns the build up with the intuitive match of chords combining with a hypnotic bassline that instinctively flows with ease.
The tile track is remixed by Dutch heavyweight Gerd, quickening the tempo in typical fashion with a more garage-fused take on the original, laying down hard-hitting drums, heavy basskicks and New Jersey hi-hats underneath chopped-up, filtered vocals and big 90s stabs which dominate and guide the track throughout to create a real roller. Maxwells version is a more deep-set vibe that swings intricately along with deep house chords meshed formidably with the timeless Happy Clappers vocal snippet. Arrays of quick garage-chimes flirt with ticking hi-hats while filtered synths swirl around in synchronisation with the bassline creating a hypnotic spun-like grove that dips in and out with it's harmonic rhythm and intimate melody.
Theres plenty of quality on this latest offering from Maxwell.
The oeuvre of deep textures, warm chords and vocal samples characterises a highly listenable EP, one that demonstrates a fresh and contemporary musical insight of a producer well worth following.

For the third edition of M_Rec Ltd's vinyl-only Grey Series comes a brand new collaboration between Repitch's Ascion and our own Max_M, as Asma. Inspired by Dutch experimental filmmaker Frans Zwartjes' 1968 short film of the same name, 'Birds' morphs longing and stifling sexual tension into an opus of bold and emotively charged techno. Poignant, lyrical, sensual and at the same time weighty and profoundly compelling, 'Birds' is another fine example of the kind of transcendent dance floor material that has come to define the Grey Series offshoot. Sandwell District affiliate Silent Servant follows with a solid neo-vintage remix on the b-side, complete with drum and chord stabs that lift 'Birds' out of the basement to wander in haunted house and techno limbo.

With support from a stunning cross section of industry players - Chase & Status, Pendulum, Friction, Camo & Krooked, Loadstar, Rockwell, High Rankin, Feed Me - and a position in the top five best-selling albums of 2012 on Beatport, Black Sun Empire's 'From The Shadows' LP was one of the Dutch trio's biggest accomplishments in their fifteen year, five album history. To celebrate? They're serving up this disgustingly massive remix compendium.
Featuring some of the most exciting talents in drum & bass, each of the six remixes here offer a sizzling new slant on three of the album's biggest tracks. All armed with their own character and uncompromising dynamics, it's a challenge deciding which one to drop first..
'All Is Lost' starts the set with the perfect balance of emotional sonic star-gazing and gritty bottom-end welly. With stunning hymn-like vocals from Thomas Oliver and hype-hungry attitude from Youthstar, it's widely regarded as one of the album's boldest highlights. Naturally both Memtrix and Telekinesis have stepped up to the massive challenge.
Lifted fave Memtrix goes first. Opening with teases of the original's euphoric synths, he lets the vocals breath for one second before BANG: utter bassline sickness takes over. Complete sonic bombardment of the senses, there is no mistaking Memtrix's direction and focus for this prime-time piece of D&B naughtiness. And there's no mistaking the raw power of Telekinesis's remix, either.. Igniting with piano-primed 'lighters up' intro, we're soon pushed into the deepest end of the darkness pool with Youthstar's spitfire delivery, a gut-busting halfstep groove and a murder of distorted bass tones. Flipping to full D&B tempo midway, it's a strident party piece that will stay in your wallet or playlist from now until the 23rd century.
Next up, 'Dawn Of A Dark Day': A blazing unity of UK grime and Euro neuro, the day Black Sun Empire called up the Foreign Beggars for mic-duties was a game-changing day for the entire bass industry. Naturally both remixes pay respect to the fusion and fire of the original. Prolix takes the original's swaggering halfstep intro and adds a touch more menace on the low-end and an industrial punch to the beats before dropping into a rampant, rolling speaker-smasher. No face will be left unmelted when you drop this. We guarantee it. Meanwhile Receptor adds his own interpretation with an instant uptempo kickstart and the creative use of drama-drenched cinematic strings and devilish Slayer-level guitars.
'Killing The Light' brings us to a fitting climax with two of drum & bass most distinctive, forward-thinking acts on remix duties. Delicately dressed with the heart-melting vocals of Inne Eysermans, the raw emotion makes 'Killing The Light' the closest thing to a ballad Black Sun Empire will ever write. Paying respect to this, Icicle sharpens the kicks and snares, weaves haunting pads into the mix and takes the vocal to the darkest place imaginable. For those looking for more of a laser-snapping edge, look no further than June Miller's remix; bolstered with a gargantuan bassline and searing sonic flares, the Dutch-Anglo duo have taken the softness and depth of the original and subverted into a priceless peaktime banger that NO D&B DJ should be without this season.

Absys Records returns with another 12inch in their catalogue, this time filled with dancefloor killers provided by some well-known names from all over continent. Representing Netherlands, Fre4knc starts slowly with 'Marching Cube', a heavy rolling stomper that drives your moves directly towards the speakers as this raw piece is progressing. As the cube's march is finished, leaving the room still in motion we come across Berlin-based Es.tereo, this time teaming up with Marlyn. 'This is where it ends' leaves us bouncing between the walls being overwhelmed by haunting vocals, that on the other side bring the feeling of calmness and peace. By flipping the disc we are going into slightly different area. Anile does his take on one piece of Nuage's album, recently realeased on Absys Limited, as he transforms chilled beats and wishful atmosphere of 'Eversky' into a fast 170bpm voyage straight to the dancefloor.

Soul Deep Recordings is proud to present their second vinyl release featuring
two of the top producers in the Drum & Bass scene. MJT, a producer hailing from

backdrop. His songs are being played by all the big deejays worldwide. Arp-1, is a

The 'A' Side song, 'Souls In Motion', is an instant classic that will be played
