Solar Phenomena's fourth EP of 2018 is a four tracker from Fluxion. The Greek producer's warm dub techno comes on labels like his own Vibrant Music and Echocord and over the last 20 years has given rise to some of the genre's most essential material.
Opener Jaxtaposed is a gently lilting groove. Skewed chords do their thing in background and gluey drums roll on as subtle fx add detail. Versal is more experimental, with skeletal metal drums and barely kicks. Watery droplets fall from above as somber chords are draped over the top. It's perfect melancholic minimalism. Poise has heavy kicks but is filled with a sense of spring and oriental melody, while Bound closes things with disheveled drum hits, muffled voices and perfectly undulated dub pads. Always finding new ground in his chosen genre, Fluxion excels once more here.
