'Black Sun Empire's Blackout imprint have enjoyed an impressive first quarter in 2014. After releasing State Of Mind's landmark album Eat The Rich, an album that shot straight to the top of the Beatport charts in its first day and remained there for over two weeks, their latest DnB-flavoured transmission comes by way of The Upbeats' hard-hitting new five-tracker, Rituals.
'Having released on a number of coveted imprints since releasing their debut LP on New Zealand's Loop Recordings back in 2004 including Bad Taste and their brilliant Primitive Technique album on Noisia's Vision Recordings label, The Upbeats have carved out a glowing reputation for keeping their music strictly authentic and their latest EP perhaps serves as some of their most pertinent work to date.
'Built around piercing rhythms, huge, charging bass lines and ferocious energy, Rituals feels perfectly crafted for the dancefloor. From the ominously eerie beginnings on tear-out opener Rituals to the melody-rich dubstep leanings of Replacement, The Upbeats demonstrate impressive versatility across all five tracks. Intriguing roller Epilson, co-produced alongside InsideInfo, is further testament to this, with bleepy, synth-fuelled DnB rhythms offering up an innovative new slice of dance floor pressure, whilst upfront heaters Def Crescent and Corposant are sure to drive fans wild.'
